City of Anna, Fire Chief

Under the executive direction of the City Manager, plan, organize, and direct all aspects of a volunteer
Fire and Rescue Department.

  • Essential Job Functions
  • Direct all operations, programs, and activities of the City of Anna Fire Department.
  • Plan, organize, prioritize, and direct the activities of the department. Ensure the total operational
    effectiveness of the department. Conduct performance evaluations, counsel, discipline, hire and
    terminate staff.
  • Cooperate with local, state, and federal agencies and with other City departments where fire
    activities are concerned. Develop and implement best practices and procedures for managing the
    response to emergencies within our community, region, and state.
  • Direct the preparation, review, and administration of department budget. Conduct regular reviews
    of expenditures and future budget requirements.

Ancillary Job Functions

  • Oversee code administration to ensure that proper fire and safety standards are maintained.
  • Meet with civic groups and community organizations to promote and gain support for Fire
    Department activities.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence as required by the work in the department.
  • Develop and implement department policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience – One of the following categories must be met:

  • Office of the State Fire Marshal Basic Operations Firefighter Certification or Office of the State
  • Fire Marshal Firefighter II Certification; Office of the State Fire Marshal Advanced Fire Officer
    Certification or Office of the State Fire Marshal Fire Officer II Certification; and an associate
    degree in fire science or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • A current certification from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress or Pro Board
    Fire Service Professional Qualifications System that meets the National Fire Protection
    Association standard NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, Level I
    job performance requirements; a current certification from the International Fire Service
    Accreditation Congress or Pro Board Fire Service Professional Qualifications System that meets
    the National Fire Protection Association standard NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer
    Professional Qualifications, Fire Officer II job performance requirements; and an associate
    degree in fire science or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • Qualifications that meet the National Fire Protection Association standard NFPA 1001, Standard
    Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, Level I job performance requirements; qualifications that
    meet the National Fire Protection Association standard NFPA 1021, Standard for Fire Officer
    Professional Qualifications, Fire Officer II job performance requirements; and an associate
    degree in fire science or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a firefighter at the Anna Fire Department

  • Thorough knowledge of effective managerial and administrative practices, methods, and
    processes.
  • Knowledge of fire suppression methods, practices, techniques.
  • Knowledge of fire and emergency response equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and precautions pertaining to the use and operation of fire
    equipment and fire suppression activities.
  • Knowledge of effective managerial practices and methods, and the ability to plan, organize,
    prioritize, coordinate, assign, and evaluate the work of subordinate employees.
  • Ability to assess emergency response needs at a fire or other emergency scene.
  • Knowledge of fire codes and regulations.
  • Clear verbal communication skills and ability to give and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to deal courteously and effectively with other City employees,
    public safety agencies, and the general public.

Work Environment – Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the
performance of the functions of this job

  • Varying, inclement outdoor weather conditions and in extreme heat and cold non-weather
    conditions.
  • Exposure to mechanical and other hazardous fluids, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Work in high, dangerous places and near mechanical moving parts.
  • Exposure to loud noise.
  • Work in hazardous traffic conditions.

City of Anna, Public Works Clerical Assistant

The City of Anna, IL is accepting applications for the position of a Public Works Clerical Assistant. This job will be located in the Anna Public Works Department.  Applicants must be 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent. The position will be 30-40 hrs. a week with a schedule of 7 am to 4 pm. Applicants must be able to multi-task, work well with the public and employees. City of Anna, Full-Time Police Officer

City of Anna, Code Enforcement Officer

The City of Anna seeks to fill the position of Code Enforcement Officer. The Code Enforcement Officer performs enforcement of land use ordinances, housing and building codes and other related code provisions; performs a variety of field and office work in support of the City’s Code Compliance Program; issues administrative citations; obtains and executes inspection warrants, may present reports and/or recommendations to the City Council and occasionally appears at administrative hearings and courts of law; writes a variety of inspection reports and makes compliance recommendations to the City Administrator. Candidates must demonstrate good judgement, communication skills, firmness, tact, and persistence. Candidates must be able to understand written code and policy and apply such to code
enforcement cases presented in the community.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs field inspections and office duties ensuring compliance with the City’s land use, housing, zoning, abatement, dangerous buildings codes and sections of the Municipal Code as may be directed
  • Performs field surveys and investigates complaints of possible code and ordinance violations
  • Contacts property and business owners to schedule and conduct onsite inspections
  • Advises violators of ordinance requirements and seeks to gain voluntary compliance
  • Takes photographs and gathers all pertinent facts from the parties involved
  • Issues notices of violations and citations
  • Maintains records of inspections and enforcement efforts; prepares required documentation for administrative and legal actions
  • Testifies in administrative and court proceedings regarding code violations; performs follow-up actions as needed to ensure compliance
  • Confers with related agencies and City departments on disposition of complaints and code violations
  • Prepares detailed and specialized reports and correspondence related to code enforcement inspections, violations and other activities
  • Provides the public with information regarding land use, zoning, building and housing code regulations
  • Promotes and maintains safety in the workplace
  • Performs related duties as assigned

Full Time/Part Time position, consisting of 1500 hours. The annual salary range for this position is $23,835.

To be eligible for this position the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Subject to random drug and alcohol testing, as well as background checks
  • High School Graduate 18 years of age or older
  • Be a resident of Union County-Preferably the Anna Response Area
  • Have a valid Class “C” Driver’s License; successful applicants will be required to obtain a Class “B” within 60 days of employment
  • Have reliable transportation with proof of valid insurance
  • Be physically fit and capable of performing all duties
  • No beards or goatees

**Experience preferred but not required, training will be provided by the department.**
