Lead Service Line Inventory

City of Anna, Illinois

The City of Anna is committed to providing safe and reliable drinking water to our residents. In compliance with requirements from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) and the federal U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the City has completed an inventory of water service lines throughout our system.

What Is a Service Line?

A water service line is the pipe that connects the City’s water main to your home or building. It typically consists of two portions:

  • Public Side: From the water main to the meter
  • Private Side: From the meter into your home or structure

Lead Service Line Inventory Results

The City of Anna has completed its initial system-wide inventory and classified service lines into the following categories:

  • Non-Lead: Confirmed to be made of materials that do not contain lead
  • Galvanized Requiring Replacement: Galvanized lines that may have previously been connected to lead
  • Lead: Confirmed lead service lines
  • Unknown: Material could not be verified at this time

City of Anna Inventory

  • Non-Lead: 31%
  • Galvanized Requiring Replacement: 0%
  • Lead: 58%
  • Unknown: 11%

What This Means for You

If your property is served by a lead or unknown service line, there is a potential risk of lead exposure in drinking water. Lead can cause serious health effects, especially for:

  • Infants and young children
  • Pregnant women
  • Individuals with certain health conditions

How to Reduce Your Risk

If you are concerned about lead in your drinking water, you can:

  • Run your tap for 30–60 seconds before using water for drinking or cooking
  • Use only cold water for consumption
  • Consider using a filter certified to remove lead
  • Regularly clean faucet aerators

For more information on reducing lead exposure, visit the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency website.

Ongoing Efforts

The City of Anna is actively working to:

  • Continue identifying unknown service lines
  • Plan for long-term replacement of any lead or galvanized service lines
  • Seek funding opportunities to assist with infrastructure improvements
  • Keep residents informed as new information becomes available
